THE MUSEUM - (‘AU LIT, JÉRÔME!’)

‍Dear future guest! Welcome to the webpage of our Belle Époque family home, where we’re very looking forward to welcoming you! Our spacious suites (the Proust suite, Hemingway suite, Golden suite and Angel suite) are waiting for you in our authentic fin-de-siècle house from 1892, located in a quiet residential area 250 meters from the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. A hidden gem in Antwerp’s bustling South district: a carefully and impressively restored Belle Époque house that will take you back to the time of Flaubert, Maupassant, Tolstoy, Proust, Thomas Mann, Strindberg, Wilde, Puccini and Mahler… and where you are welcomed as friends and stay in the delightful company of art works and intriguing objects. Through our cooperation with the art network Untitled-XXI we support young as well as established artists (have a look at our Facebook page). ‍

The Museum - ‘Au Lit, Jérôme!’ is surrounded by restaurants, bars and terraces in a neighbourhood where people come to enjoy themselves, but where peace returns at night. According to independent reviews, the South is Antwerp’s favourite neighbourhood. And you can still park very cheaply and effortlessly in the vicinity of our building, so, actually, what are you waiting for? Before arrival we will send you an email with all the necessary information. ‍

Come home to our family house and enjoy… The suites are integrated into a former notary’s house, and have large comfortable beds, flatscreens with digital television, free WiFi, mini- (‘honesty’-) bar, Nespresso coffee and tea. All bathrooms are en-suite and equipped with a claw-foot bath and a large walk-in shower. The Angel suite also has a very spacious south-facing lounge terrace with a garden view. ‍

Our gourmet breakfasts are served in the Belle Époque rooms on the ground floor, overlooking our Japanese garden. Lydia is passionate about gastronomy and prepares a breakfast - that is as surprising as it is fresh and pure - ‘live’ for you in the morning between 9:30 and 11:00. An experience you will not easily forget.

Charming bed & breakfast exterior
our philosophy

From the very beginning it was our aim to create, in the historical center of our wonderful city, a place where the living is good and the hustle and superficiality of our fast world are far, far away. For us this means: enjoy the silence in our 19th century spaces, cherish beauty (interior, art, literature), take the time for a good conversation, and last but not least: slow food, live cooking, taste pure flavors . And the noble art of hospitality of course. To put it simply: the hurried traveler rushing through 6 cities in 5 days, is not really our cup of tea. All others who are open to slowing down and a few hours or days of authenticity: welcome!

Also Beauty connects us: take a look at the menu at the top right: under ‘Eric’s Wunderkammer’ you will find a selection of objects, books, paintings who struck us in a special way. Some of these objects can be found in the suites or other parts of the building; some of them are for sale (not all of them). If they are for sale, the list also includes a price. Last but not least: in the same menu you will find our other places, also particularly suited for relaxation: ‘Schopenhauer’, ‘Walden’ and ‘The Lighthouse’.
